Appointments

We recognise that it is often difficult to get an appointment within a few days for problems which are non urgent but not ongoing routine matters either, and so we are making a few changes which we hope will help to address this.

We introduced a Monday " book on the day" surgery in June 2014 to make more appointments available for patients who need to be seen before the next available routine appointment slot, but whose condition is not urgent enough to require a same day assessment. For a while this worked well but we have recently noticed that it is being used for problems which have been present for a number of weeks and for which a normal routine appointment could have been used. It's hard for us to get the balance of appointments right and to make sure that clinically urgent problem are prioritised. Please help us by considering the urgency of your problem when booking an appointment.

To book a Monday morning slot you will need to ring Kirkby on 01524271210 after 8am and you will be given an appointment. All the doctors available on the morning will be taking part and although it will not be possible to book with a specific doctor we will where possible allocate to a male or female doctor if requested.

We are not planning any changes to Hornby Monday morning surgery at the moment but may in the future depending upon the outcome of the changes at Kirkby Lonsdale.

docbabyAppointments may be booked at the desk or by phoning Kirkby Lonsdale (71210) between 8:00am and 6.30pm or Hornby (21216) during their opening hours only. You can also register to book your appointments on-line.

For non-urgent, routine appointments with the Doctor or Nurse of your choice, please contact reception and they will do their best to accommodate you. If you feel you have an urgent problem that needs medical attention within the next 24 hours, please phone the surgery as early as possible in the day.

If the receptionist is unable to offer you a same or next day appointment she will take your phone number and ask for brief details of the problem. We ask for brief details so that the Doctor can look down the list of waiting phone calls and prioritise the most urgent, however if you prefer not to give any details the receptionist will leave the reason blank. The Doctor will then call you back to arrange appropriate further management after discussion with yourself. Calls for non urgent problems made after 5pm may be given an appointment the following day as we often have only one Doctor covering the practice after this time.

We do offer ‘booked only’ late appointments on a Monday until 7.30pm and early 7.30am appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These appointments are specifically for working patients who find it difficult to get into the surgery during the day. To help keep the surgeries running on time, if you want to discuss more than one problem or if you feel that your problem needs more time please ask for a longer appointment.

Please cancel your appointment if you are unable to attend so that it can be offered to another patient and help us keep waiting times down.  We do have a policy of contacting patients who miss appointments and in extreme cases patients who regularly miss appointments without letting us know may be sent a letter and removed from our practice list.

We have recently started sending text message reminders so please make sure you let us know if you change your mobile phone number.
