Appointments Not Attended

In the 5 weeks between 15th March and 19th April patients failed to attend 38 GP appointments, 15 Nurse Practitioner appointments and 22 Nurse and Healthcare Worker appointments. If you are unable to attend an appointment please let us know as soon as possible so that we can offer it to another patient.

Nurse Practitioners

Barbara,our Nurse Practitioner was an experienced qualified nurse who undertook a three-year degree course in addition to her basic nursing qualification. This allows her to treat patients with any health problems, minor or major, She has been trained to assess them using both her nursing knowledge and expertise and where appropriate, other procedures not normally undertaken by nurses such as physical examination. She is an experienced practice nurse and continues to provide advice and oversee the management of chronic conditions i.e. Diabetes, Asthma, Hypertension, Coronary Heart Disease, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Family Planning and where necessary can refer to hospital consultants.

Wendy joined the practice at the beginning of October and she will be working alongside Barbara.

Nurses

Practice nurses undertake a wide range of tasks and although they overlap in some areas, members of the team have qualifications in different aspects of nursing. This is why we ask you for a reason when booking an appointment.

Jane Thomson (f)

Jane has recently joined the practice and works in Kirkby on Tuesdays, Wednesday afternoons and Friday mornings. Jane does all the general nursing duties and in addition provides travel advice and performs lung function testing (spirometry) for patients with respiratory problems.

Ms Diane Faulkner (f)

Healthcare Assistants

The health care assistant is an important part of the Nursing Team, assisting them in their clinical and administrative activities. She has an NVQ level 2 or 3 in care and her role includes routine blood tests and urine tests, blood pressure checks, cardiographs (ECG) and spirometry. Both our health care assistants are qualified to NVQ level 3.

Ms Vanessa Taylor (f)

Vanessa has reecntly joined our practice nursing team and works at both Kirkby Lonsdale and Hornby. She mainly does phlebotomy (taking blood) but also does ECGs, urine testing, blood pressure checks and height and weight recording.
