If you can get to the surgery please do so. Home visiting in the Lune Valley can involve long distances and be very time consuming. If you think you require a home visit please try to telephone before 10:30.
A doctor or nurse may phone you back as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by telephone advice, or that it would be more appropriate to send a nurse, or indeed arrange a hospital attendance.
House visits are only available for patients who are housebound because of illness or disability.
Please remember that several patients can be seen in the practice in the time that it takes to make one home visit. There are also better facilities for examining and treating patients at the surgery.
If you feel that an ambulance is needed immediately, e.g. for collapse or chest pain call 999, otherwise call (015242) 71210.
If you suspect someone may have had a stroke and it has just happened it should be treated as a medical emergency - call 999. New treatments if given promptly can be very sucessful in reversing the effects of stroke.
Any of the following signs could be suggestive of a stroke:
1. Facial weakness - can the person smile, has their mouth or eye drooped?
2. Arm weakness - can the person raise both arms?
3. Speech problems - can the person speak clearly and understand what you say?
